What is Faith?

We have been looking at people in the bible that I call “hero’s of legendary faith” people that were just like us but they did things that put them in a category that we can use to gain wisdom and insight from.  These men and women were the elite of God’s elite. He handpicked and categorically listed them. In Hebrews 11, He says, “Now learn from these people about faith.”

If the answer to all of life’s travails is to have faith, how do we get faith? Everyone wants more faith so how does a person get it? Merely concentrating or focusing on acquiring faith will not do it.

How in the world do we get faith?

In talking about these heroes of legendary faith, we learn about how faith is not something out in the galaxy, but is an every day trust.

“Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. For by it the men of old gained approval… And  without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him” (Heb 11:1-2, 6 NASB).

Does this mean that faith is going to be more measured, not by what we see, but by what we may not see? Indeed, faith is not measured by what we have gained, but maybe what we have not yet gained; not what we possess, but what we have yet to possess. This is definitely a different definition from what we started with.

So maybe today I am going to talk to you about faith in a little different way; a different slant if you will.
