Sermon Notes

So welcome this morning as we continue to discuss what it really means to go from being captive to fear vs. living a fearless life.

I want to throw this into the mix; I can think of nothing that destroys the believer’s victory over every obstacle the enemy puts in your way more than fear!

Just real briefly, last week we talked about fear perhaps being the foundation to all my sin, even though God himself told us there was nothing to fear… the key to overcoming fear is to understand that His mighty presence is with us at all times, but if we don’t deal with fear, those fears will rob us as over time we will build up defenses against what we perceive are areas of weakness.
We also looked at how from the very beginning, in the garden of eden, satan used fear to bring a wedge between man and God, and that fear was manifest in a fear of intimacy with God; we run from Him, not to Him.
Now let’s take another look at a list of destructive emotions, and see if we can identify a fear behind that emotion.

Anger—fear we will not get our way
Jealousy—fear we will lose what we want or we won’t measure up to others
Despair— worry that the things in the past are going to happen again
Discouragement— fear that all is lost or failing is the only possible outcome
Pride—fear that we won’t be found capable
Greed—fear of not having enough
Rejection—fear that we will not be accepted or we will be abandoned
Guilt— fear that our sinful actions are going to be discovered
Indecision—fear we are going to make the wrong decision

Every one of those emotions I listed, and there are more I just don’t have time to list more, but every one of those emotions is nothing but a big fat lie!
Fear brings agony, entrapment, sorrow, anxiety, loss, loneliness, pain and almost always the fear is acting a lot bigger than it should be.

No believer, follower of Christ, loved by God, filled by His Spirit, washed by His blood, should live in fear and anxiety; it is not His plan for your life!

1 Peter 2:9 But you are the ones chosen by God, chosen for the high calling of priestly work, chosen to be a holy people, God’s instruments to do his work and speak out for him, to tell others of the night-and-day difference he made for you.
