Sermon Notes

Last week I gave you the last 5 ingredients for a miracle, we had given the first 5 the week before, and a reminder… if you are going to have miracles the first thing you need is a great need and remember… we don’t have problems; we have opportunities!!!

So let’s use the story of a guy in the Old Testament who was an awful lot like the rest of us, and I think we will see some real keys to use; his name is Gideon. We have talked about him before, and I have to tell you he is one of my favorite guys in the bible. I would love to hang with this guy, for so many reasons…

He did not start off with a strong faith, although God used him to do some pretty amazing things, he did not start off
strong, he actually started off rather weak.

Judges 6:1 “Then the sons of Israel did what was evil in the sight of the Lord; and the Lord gave them into the hands of Midian seven years”

The Israelites had really turned their backs on God and as a result their surrounding enemies had a field day with them. The Midianites were harassing the Israelites big time, so they made for dens in the mountains and caves and so every time they were attacked, they had these places and they would run away and hide in these caves.

They would just take the grain and steal everything else that had been sown and off they would go.

Then the Israelites would cry to God: “God, it has been seven years this has been happening. How do we get rid of these Midianites? What do we do?”
