Sermon Notes

So welcome this morning as we continue along in our study of grace and how grace is the only answer to shame. Speaking of shame, the question really boils down to how do you deal with shame?
How do you get over the shame of your past, how do you heal if shame keeps coming back on you, how you move on from shame….

John 9:1-3 Walking down the street, Jesus saw a man blind from birth. His disciples asked, “Rabbi, who sinned: this man or his parents, causing him to be born blind?”
Jesus said, “You’re asking the wrong question. You’re looking for someone to blame. There is no such cause-effect here. Look instead for what God can do. (MSG)

What we want to deal with today is practical steps to deal with the shame that holds us back, that sense of humiliation that stops us dead in our tracks…
Shame is a terribly potent additive to some very core emotions; in other words shame mixed with other emotions really makes a blaster of effect;

Shame + fear = terror
Shame + anger= rage
Shame + embarrassment= humiliation

• Quit placing blame!
