Sermon Notes

One of the trickiest questions we struggle with as believers is our we think about ourselves; we know what Jesus thinks about us, but the most important question is how do I think about myself? How I feel about myself is going to go a long ways to how I am going to live my life and how I am going to approach God; if I buy into the lies the enemy says about me, that will stop me from reaching for all that Jesus has bought for me…
The reality is that there is probably no one in the entire world that is as critical of you as you are of yourself, in fact sometimes the reason we don’t think God cares much for us is because we are not too sure what we think about ourselves…
We rehash our failures, believe we bad, inherently damaged beyond love or repair, and in fact we can trace many of our roots of fear and bitterness and unforgiveness to the condemnation we feel about ourselves!
The source of this pain is clear, it is the enemy of our soul, who Revelation 12:10 calls the “accuser of the brethren”.
1Peter 5:8 Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.
His best way to keep you from becoming the champion you are called to be is to turn you against you, keep you hitting you and you will never get up and overcome; He just works to discourage you and paralyze you.
So let’s look at where guilt comes from, it is really guilt that we are talking about but the question is, is it accurate guilt or false guilt? So where does guilt that I feel come from?
• Legitimate guilt comes from sinning against God.
When we sin, we face a pressure of conviction from within to repent and return to His will, if I ignore that conviction and continue in that sin it will have some pretty severe consequences; this is like God’s red light to stop and make a change.
It would be nice to only have green lights in life, but red lights are there to make us safe; they are a warning to stop doing what you are doing, the same is true for God’s internal witness of His Holy Spirit.
