Sermon Notes

So let me start off by asking you a question; what were the times you grew the most in your life? Was it at the mountaintop when everything was going well and the sun was shining; or was it in the valleys of despair when there was an opportune moment for the enemy to hit us when we were so vulnerable?

Didn’t we grow the most at the bottom; at the valley of despair? It is during those times when we need to learn to make good decisions; decisions in the midst of temptation.

Set-backs will tempt you to throw it all in. at those times remember this; because of Christ you have the ability to make very wise decisions that will take you higher and farther!

Now to be sure there are also times when we are so successful that we will be tempted. We forget from where we came and we get a little arrogant and a little condescending. With a cock-a-doodle stance we think… They should show me a little bit more respect than that. Do they know who I am?

We can get tempted in set-backs and also at successful times. But, every single one of us is going to get nailed with temptations – every single one of us.

What do we do when we come to those times? We do not know when the tests come, but they will come. We do not even know what is going to be on the tests, but they will come.

Decisions we make in life will be many, but the toughest ones will be when we are tested; when we are tempted; and when we are under pressure. God knew that so He made a way available for every single one of us to escape the temptation and come out stronger because of it.

So let’s start with this verse:

“No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it” (1 Cor 10:13 NKJV).

God gives us what we need so that we will not be tempted more than we are able to bear. Here are three principles that will help us come through better and not bitter; wiser and not more foolish; stronger and not weaker.
